Opening your peonies

Your stems arrive as soft buds. A little care turns them into full blooms.

  • Cut and drink Trim about an inch off each stem at an angle and set them in clean, cool water right away.
  • Give them a few days Buds open over several days. A warmer room speeds it up, and a cooler one slows it down.
  • Keep them out of the sun Bright, direct light and heat make blooms fade sooner. A shaded spot keeps them fresh.
  • Change the water Refresh the water every day or two and trim the stems again if they look tired.
